As broadcasters, rights holders and sporting organisations all continue to assess the impact of COVID-19 on their balance sheets, we should be slightly weary about drawing too many conclusions on the state of the sport media rights market in 2022. However, it’s clear that the shift in emphasis from traditional broadcast towards technological innovation and new viewing experiences is continuing to pick up pace.

Writing a chapter for the LawInSport Yearbook 2022, Josh Kay looks at three of the key trends that have developed throughout 2022 in the sport media rights market and how these trends may continue to evolve in 2023 and beyond, namely:
