The Culture, Media and Sport Committee is inviting “pitches and suggestions from across the culture, media and sports world” on possible areas for it to investigate as part of a new ‘State of Play’ inquiry.
The Committee’s State of Play inquiries offer an opportunity for otherwise unexamined subjects to come under the scrutiny of the Committee and gain greater prominence. The Committee invites members of the sports and creative industries to nominate subjects to be examined, and is particularly interested in looking into matters which “may previously have been underappreciated or underreported” so that it can cast a spotlight on them.
Recent topics on which the Committee has held sessions include, for example, the challenges faced by the live comedy sector (discussed here) as well as those faced by members of the creative industries touring the EU.
Commenting on the invitation for new ideas for its inquiry, the Committee Chair, Dame Caroline Dinenage, said:
“Whether it’s by bringing ministers to the table to talk about live comedy or kickstarting discussions on funding for our exceptional British elite deaf athletes, our State of Play sessions have shown the success that we can have when we give a voice to those who have previously felt unheard.
“We now want to hear about the latest topics and challenges that are still sailing under the radar so we can continue to make a genuine difference and help maintain the success of our culture, media and sporting sectors.”
The deadline for submissions is 19 May 2026, and more information can be found here.
