We’re delighted to have advised Refute on its £2.3m pre-seed funding round led by Playfair and Episode 1 Ventures with participation from Amadeus Capital Partners, Notion Capital and Ventures Together.

Refute fights disinformation on behalf of organisations by both detecting and responding to campaigns at the speed of the attackers, taking a quantitative approach by fusing, tracing and scoring narratives and behaviours across the interconnected data. With their backgrounds in national security, cyber security, financial crime and identity management, founders Tom Garnett and Vlad Galu bring years of experience creating world-leading data analysis systems to their new venture.

The Wiggin team was led by Corporate Partner, Tom Gastrell, who was primarily supported by Sam Cheong.

Tom Gastrell said: “It was our absolute pleasure to support Tom and Vlad with their funding round. Refute is such an important company in the critical fight against the numerous threats disinformation brings. We’re really excited to watch and help the company grow.”

Tom Garnett, Co-founder of Refute, commented: “Vlad and I really enjoyed working with Tom and Sam as part of our pre-seed investment round. It truly felt like one team. We found Wiggin extremely responsive, agile and knowledgeable about the process and working with start ups. We are pleased to be working with Wiggin strategically moving forwards.”

Wiggin’s Corporate practice has been involved in many significant deals in the media, entertainment, technology and sport sectors in recent years. As well as investments, the team advises on a broad range of corporate and corporate finance matters, including M&A, joint ventures and restructurings.
