Wiggin’s IP and Rights Protection team has won the UK Copyright category at the 2015 Managing Intellectual Property Global Awards.

The MIP Awards recognise the most innovative and challenging IP work across the globe over the past year. Winners are selected by MIP’s team of editors and researchers, based on research for the world IP survey, a review of market developments and client feedback. When announcing Wiggin as the winner of the UK Copyright category, the announcer said the team had won because of its “pioneering work in online enforcement”.

Wiggin’s team has established itself as a market leader, acting for major rights owners and their representative bodies such as Richemont, Warner Bros., Motion Picture Association, Ministry of Sound, Universal Studios, IFPI, The Publishers Association amongst others. In October 2014, Wiggin successfully represented Richemont in a landmark case that established that blocking injunctions can be obtained against ISPs in respect of websites that are engaged in acts of trade mark infringement. This follows Wiggin’s representation of the movie studios in securing the first ever copyright blocking order, directed at the Newzbin website.

Head of the IP and Rights Protection team, Simon Baggs comments: “We are very proud and delighted to have won this award, given that it reflects the views of esteemed IP professionals and owners. We have worked hard over the years to pursue our goal of protecting the rights of leading IP owners and it has been a privilege to work with the team on some of the most ground-breaking cases in this fast moving area.”

“Wiggin recently established an innovative technology company, InCoPro, which provides intelligence, analysis and enforcement services to major brand and content owners. Combining our legal expertise with innovative technology has further enhanced the quality of the work we are able to deliver. We look forward to continuing to deliver targeted and effective solutions for our clients.”

Wiggin was shortlisted in both the Europe: Copyright and UK: Copyright categories. This year sees the tenth anniversary of the Managing Intellectual Property Awards.
