While you’d be forgiven for focusing on the launch of the European Super League in April 2021, the Premier League’s attention was elsewhere.
In May 2021, the Premier League announced that its 20 clubs had unanimously agreed to ‘rollover’ its existing broadcast agreements with Sky Sports, BT Sport, Amazon Prime Video and BBC Sport for 2022 – 2025. This is a break from the open tender process generally followed by the Premier League to ward off competition laws, and required specialist approval by the UK government.
