Insights Ofcom updates General Conditions in relation to new “calling line identification” requirements

Ofcom has updated one of the General Conditions and associated guidance relating to the new “calling line identification” requirements, which are due to take effect from 1 October 2018.

Under these requirements, which are designed to help protect consumers against nuisance calls, communications providers must take steps to identify invalid calls, and prevent them from being connected.

Ofcom has made changes to this rule and guidance, to clarify that calls to the emergency services must never be blocked.
