Insights Ofcom consults on its review of the BBC’s television access service requirements

Ofcom is seeking views on its proposals, following a review of the BBC’s television access service requirements, as required under the Charter and Agreement.

Ofcom is proposing to maintain existing targets for BBC television channels: subtitling on all programmes, audio description on 10%, and signing on 5%. The regulator also wants to make some minor changes to its Code on Television Access Services to make it clearer and more user-friendly for all broadcasters.

Ofcom says that it plans to consider guidance on the accessibility of BBC iPlayer separately, at the same time as it consults more widely on guidance relating to accessibility requirements for other on-demand services.

Ofcom is seeking views from interested or affected parties by 15 January 2020. For further details on the proposals, click here.
