HMCTS says that the COVID-19 outbreak has resulted in a radical and swift transition to the widespread use of audio and video technology to allow hearings to take place without all participants being present in court or tribunal buildings. HMCTS says that the aim of the evaluation is to collect robust evidence on the characteristics, experiences and perceptions of court and tribunal users, during the pandemic. The findings of the evaluation will inform the use of audio and video technologies, helping HMCTS to improve user experience.

The study will include a surveys and qualitative interviews with different groups of court and tribunal stakeholders, including the public, legal professionals, the judiciary, and court and support staff. For further information, click here.
