Insights Department for Culture, Media and Sport publishes consultation on European Commission’s proposed revisions to European Electronic Communications Framework.

The Government explains that the European Commission is working to establish a new European Electronic Communications Code, which, amongst other things, seeks to:

  • harmonise regulation of electronic communications across the EU;
  • encourage competition as a driver of private investment, innovation and consumer choice; and
  • provide adequate consumer protection.

These proposals include changes to regulations on access, the way radio spectrum is managed, and levels of consumer protection.

To represent the UK in negotiations, the DCMS is seeking stakeholder views across business and industry at industry roundtables and events.  It would also like to invite those stakeholders who cannot attend these events to share their views and stay updated on progress.  The consultation closes on 30 November 2016.  To access the consultation, click here.
