On 15 December 2023, the European Council and Parliament reached provisional agreement on the Commission’s proposal for a Regulation establishing a common framework for media services in the EU internal market and to safeguard media freedom, media pluralism and editorial independence, known as the Media Freedom Act, a summary of which was previously reported by Wiggin.

EU Member States endorsed the provisional agreement on 19 January 2023. The text of the Act will now be finalised and will then need to be formally adopted by both the Council and the Parliament.
