Insights Government extends deadline for responses to its consultation on a proposed Online Advertising Programme

The consultation on a proposed Online Advertising Programme (OAP) was launched in March 2022, with an original deadline for responses of 1 June 2022. The Government has now extended that deadline by one week to 8 June 2022.

The Government is proposing to tighten the rules for the online advertising industry. The OAP will review the regulatory framework of paid-for online advertising in order to tackle the evident lack of transparency and accountability across the whole supply chain. It will consider how industry and government can build on the existing self-regulatory framework, by strengthening the mechanisms currently in place and under development, to enable regulators meet the challenges of the online sphere, whilst maintaining a pro-innovation and proportionate approach to digital regulation.
