The digital identity trust framework is part of the Government’s plans to make it faster and easier for people to verify themselves using modern technology through a process as trusted as using driving licences or passports without personal data rules being breached. The Government has recognised that digital identity is being pushed up the agenda across a variety of sectors and services.

This updated document sets out the Government’s vision for the rules governing the future use of digital identities. It supersedes the original version of the digital identities trust framework, published in February 2021. Comments from that version of the framework received during last month’s consultation have been fed into this updated version.

The Government is inviting expressions of interest in testing the updated version of the framework. It has extended the deadline to submit an expression of interest to 19 September 2021. There is also a pre-legislative consultation process completing on 13 September 2021. Following the consultation and testing, the Government plans to bring the framework into law.
