Insights Ofcom consults on draft regulations to allow certain devices to operate in 2 GHz, 2.3 GHz and 3.4 GHz bands on a licence exempt basis.

Ofcom’s consultation invites comments on proposals to make two sets of regulations: the Wireless Telegraphy (Mobile Satellite Earth Apparatus) (Exemption) Regulations 2016; and the Wireless Telegraphy (Exemption) (Amendment) (No.2) Regulations 2016.

These plans enable the use of user terminals, i.e. mobile and satellite phones, on a licence exempt basis within the 2 GHz, 2.3 GHz and 3.4 GHz bands.

The proposals also outline the planned technical parameters for the use within these bands.

The consultation closes on 30 August 2016.  To access the consultation, click here.
